Otwin
Closet find!
The door is opened by an older gentleman in a small town near the former East German border. He kindly asks us to come in.
His mother, a tiny smiling grey haired woman, already in her eighties, invites us into the living room. She proudly points at the 1958-59 Otwin red perloid archtop that's 'showing off' on a chair next to her. After a few friendly words we're invited to check it out.
.....................................................Wow! ....................................................
She did get it from her husband in 1958 as a present, he is playing a matching accordion. They will be an awesome pair, playing together on their red perloid instruments.
After a few sessions - her small hands can't get used to the wider neck - she deceides to grab her worn trusted old guitar again. Her present gets safely stored in the original bag.
She never thinks of selling it, 'You can't sell a present from your husband and it was a real investment at the time as well '
After been stored safely in a closet for 66 years it's time to find a new home for the Otwin, she is going to move and doesn't want to take it with her. The older gentleman, her son helps her to find a new owner.
* We step into the car with our 'new' purchase - We can't believe what just happened.....
